Each year, we present the story of Christmas in way that people can see and connect with at Bethlehem Revisited. This year, we’ll be presenting Bow the Knee, an Easter Cantata that tells the story of Easter from the perspective of the centurion that said, “Surely this was the Son of God.” A powerful story with moving music, we’re hoping that telling this story will show people what Easter means in a way they haven’t considered before.
We will presenting this cantata to the community Palm Sunday weekend, with performances on Saturday, March 27 at 7:00 pm, and Sunday, March 28 at 3:00 and 7:00 pm. If you're not planning on participating in the cantata, please be thinking of a person or persons to bring to the cantata. The Gospel will be clearly presented.
This cantata is a huge undertaking, and we need many volunteers, from the main cast and crowd, to the choir, to the orchestra and tech team. Below, each part is detailed.
Cast: Jesus (tenor), Anthony (baritone, Roman Centurion), Eli (baritone, Anthony’s Hebrew slave), Marcus (Centurion, Anthony’s Antagonist), Pilate, 12 Disciples (no speaking parts), Woman (mezzo-soprano, woman about to be stoned), High Priest, Other incidental parts – Rehearsals for this group will be determined as needed to figure out blocking and to learn parts.
Crowd: Throughout the cantata, there is a crowd that is the participators of the events leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion. No singing is involved, but we need a group to fill out the drama. You will only need to attend three rehearsals prior to the performance to learn blocking and reactions.
Choir: We need as many choir members as possible, if you sing, please join us.
Orchestra: If you play an instrument, please sign up, and we can plug you in.
Tech Team: In addition to people to run sound and lights, we will need to construct a stage with a cross scene. We will also have to solve some of the limitations which confront us in our sanctuary.
I've attached a rehearsal schedule below. If you are interested in participating in any of these parts, please click here to subscribe to the appropriate email list. Even if you already are on our email list, please sign up again, as this list is cantata specific.
